Posto carino, ma gestione terribile, erano più le cose che non funzionavano che quelle che funzionavano. Ascensori perennemente guasti

Disregard the reviews that say there are no accidental fire alarms. They happen weekly and the building refuses to do anything about it. Trash has piled up on in the trash room to the point where the door doesn’t move. The elevators also break down every week or so and have flies in them. The building also changed their lock system to a phone app. There are no physical keys anymore and this new app is far slower and sometimes doesn’t work at all. If your phone isn’t modern enough then you won’t be able to use the app and therefore can’t access your room without paying an absurd fee each time.

It has been my greatest DISPLEASURE living at University Centre. In short, DO. NOT. LIVE. HERE!! And here are all the reasons why:

The apartment they showed us was not the one we got. We were supposed to get a 3-bedroom, but on our tour, they showed us a 2-bedroom with nice-sized rooms and said this was exactly what the 3-bedroom looks like. It does not. The 3-bedroom rooms are tiny.

When I arrived at the apartment, the carpets were disgusting. We had to use an industrial carpet cleaner, and it was horrendous. I also had mold throughout my shower. UC told me they had “too many apartments” to look at and made me shower in a moldy shower for multiple days before someone arrived.

The fridge they gave us broke down, and they refused to replace it for over a month. They kept sending different maintenance people who couldn’t fix it. We had hundreds of dollars worth of food spoil before they finally did something.

The vents were moldy and dusty, and my roommates would constantly get sick.

The AC constantly broke down, and they were unable or unwilling to fix it multiple times. It was a constant back-and-forth until I had to threaten to withhold rent before they finally gave us personal air conditioners.

IF IT’S TOO LATE AND YOU’RE LOCKED IN, CHECK YOUR LEASE: If it says that your electric bill is based on a formula because there’s only one meter for the whole building, IT IS A LIE! Each apartment has its own unit; this has been confirmed by their office, PSEG, and the billing company. They have lied about so many things, and UC is a constant money grab.

Upon moving out, they made up a “damage” charge and supplied zero ACTUAL proof of it. They made me pay for it unless I could prove their made-up charge was wrong.

Finally, I hope all the best for the students/children they have staffing their front desk. We gave them hell with all the issues their superiors handed them because no supervisor or adult was actually available. They have zero actual training, and the operations they are running on their behalf are a complete sham.

To conclude, DO NOT MOVE HERE. It’s a money grab for students who don’t know any better about how much things actually cost. Spend just a bit more money and move into a legitimate apartment complex. University Centre is genuinely a horrible place to live, and it was in no way worth the hassle.

The place seems to be good at first place, but the real situation is when you start living there. You will never get the apartment on the date the lease starts approval of lease takes a lot of time even past the lease date. Leasing manager is not concerned about the person who has to move in. Morever workorders take too long to resolve. Nobody handles issues properly and all the things are made to be done by students on front desk , nobody takes accountabilty to make a better place to live. Not worthy of paying so much rent, taking an aprtment at cheaper price is better outside.

This building has to be one of the worst in Newark. I was the voice of reason amongst my roommates for giving this building more chances than it deserved and time and time again I was proven wrong for doing so. For starters, the air ducts are ridden with black mold. My roommates and I placed particle filters over our vents within the first week and they went from white to pitch black in a month from the air being filtered through. More than one of us consistently saw noticeable differences in how sick we felt when sleeping in UC vs. our homes. Our tap water ran out of the sinks brown at least twice a month. The hot water went out at approximately the same rate. The "free" printer that they love to advertise as an amenity was not working from the months of October to April despite double digit requests for service. It was clear that they did not clean the room between the previous tenants moving out and us moving in because we had to remove food, dust, and debris from all common spaces upon move in, yet they falsely charge residents for cleaning fees on move out.

We were consistently fraudulently charged for incorrect utilities, we went without Heat/AC for months and the building management refused to put money into fixing them properly, we were charged ~$600 for a singular month of electric and then subsequently lied to about why it was that price instead of working with us through our frustration. We were originally told that the high electricity bill was due to some magical formula they were not allowed to provide us which allocated each and every resident an equal portion of the entire building's utilities and there was no individual meter for our unit, even though there actually was an individual meter for our unit (this is illegal in NJ). Upon learning that the people down the hall paid approximately $15 per person in the exact same month we were paying approximately $200 per person for electricity we brought this to the building's attention. Their response was "we don't do the billing, that is the outside billing company and any issues need to be brought to them." When asking the billing company, it became clear that they merely sent out to each resident the bills that UC sent them. UC then denied this and said that PSE&G was to blame. As we worked our way through the web of lies, UC finally fessed up and said "we told you the wrong thing and the problem is with your heating unit." It took another two months to fix the unit while we were being consistently charged egregious rates for electricity. When the issue was finally "fixed" they only compensated our electricity bills for the some of the months we were in the building and told us that the heating and AC came from separate places so they couldn't give us money back for months we used AC. Low and behold, when we had to put in service requests that our AC was out they sent workers in to work on the exact same unit as the heating issues. Yet another lie.

If none of the above if evidence of how bad the building is, someone down the hall from us sued the building company for discrimination and was awarded a sizable settlement for their experiences dealing with this horrendous living space.

Upon moving out of our unit, they attempted to charge us for multiple fraudulent cleaning fees and maintenance that were created by their staff or effectuated with no real proof of the damages. When reasoning with the company we were met with email responses that consisted of simply "the charge stands" regardless of the evidence offered to the contrary. I won't even begin to get into the fact that they threw away a unique wooden wall clock that was accidentally left behind even though i returned less than 12 hours after I moved out. I personally was charged at a 5000% markup rate for a missing part in the wardrobe that was missing when I moved in. They even tried to charge me $200 for a mattress that their own staff removed from my room.

For the sake of your sanity, your health, and your wallet - do not move into this building or you will probably regret it.

I think this place is the perfect compromise between comfort and affordability. I chose the 2 bath and 2 room option and I did't have any problem. There is also a Gym in the Basement and a lot of study room and common space where you can go. In addition, every two floor you can find a laundry. The staff is very kind and they helped me a lot, answering all my questions (especially Tameeka Howell).
I highly reccomend UC.

After living here for a few years now i would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Here are a list of issues and concerns I've had for awhile now and do not get resolved.

-office will resolve your issues with not your time. I have had multiple instances where work orders have taken over a month to be resolved.
-depending on who deal with in the office, once again, you are on their time including receiving a package. Many times have I had a package delivered in the morning and it would take 24/48 and even 72 hours to pick it up after contacting about it. There are a few of the student staff who are quite rude when you have a problem and tell you there is nothing they can do instead of trying to work out a solution or something to help assist. Many times they refer to the line "there is nothing we can do" since they are bothered if you call or see them in person explaining the issue.
-many instances at this particular location are not fixed or do not work as intended. Such as various elevator buttons in both the residential and parking garages, security gates which seem to break quite frequently.
-for the price that you pay per unit, there are MUCH better choices than this place.

Sofia was the perfect host, she made our whole group comfortable with the prospect of our children students living at University Centre.
